10. Tip or no tip!
The United States is, by far, the place where this habit is best found and prevalent. In Japan, it is an insult to tip a waiter and in Europe it is customary. However, in The States it is absolutely compulsory. It was not always the case in The States, it started after the civil war as a way for the aristocrats to separate themselves from the common. There was even an anti-tipping petition that was going to ban tipping legally!

In 1984, Phyllis Penzo, the waiter was offered the sum of 3 million dollars as promised by a police detective. The detective asked her to pick 3 numbers and he will pick another three and so forth. But the shocking thing was that they actually won tge $ 6 million prize!

Men are known to be better tippers than women and couples tip better than loners necessarily and smokers top the nons. It has been controversial why these claims were made but at Cornell University, a research was made to know if race also affects tye process. It was proven that African Americans, and minorities in general, tend to be less tippers than the Anglo-Saxon folks. Well, that’s different!
7. The smart customer
Sometimes customers try to outsmart beverage marketing companies. When beverage companies turned to Cocacola to solve the problem of low beverages use, Cocacola introduced the H2NO program. What happened was that many customers tried to save money by ordering something cheaper and then making their own beverage. For instance, they may order water with lemon and then mix it with some of the sugar available at the table and voilà! The program aimed to market more adequate beverages than soda to encourage consumption at such situations. The Newyork Times exposed the whole thing in 2001 and it was certainly not good news for Cocacola.
6. Bad tips
A bad tip is surely a frustrating thing for a waiter and sometimes the waiter makes you feel back his or her frustration. It could be by a rolling eye, muttered words or an even worse kind of service. However, what happened in Chicago was something else! The waiters used some antimony potassium tartrate; this drug provoked vomiting and unfortunately can be a lethal if used in large quantity.

Hooters has usually been controversial in the way they define “service”. To work in a hooter, you will have to be a ravishing young lady who likes “attention”. However exotic this might seem, it seemed to be working until some men filed a lawsuit against hooters for denying them jobs. It is against the law after all!

Female waiters are reportedly harassed sexually five times the amount of harassment a woman might get in any other job field. It has became more of a fact that a woman must have had been sexually harassed during her entire career of waiting tables at least for once!

Gender inequity is a problem that faces women in all fields of life since the beginning of time. However dominant they might be in the career of attending tables, they have proven to be victims of serious inequality. Big restaurants would not hire them and they end up with a low to medium wage.

Some restaurants have found a new and different way to market their business. They have used alternative waiters, afterall who said waiters have to be humans! In China, Dalu brought robot waiters with motion sensors and in Japan, monkeys were much more fun!
