Find Relaxation in Your Living Room with Minimalism in 8 Steps
Don’t you sometimes think that the room is full of clutter and that you are tripping over one thing or another? Don’t you sometimes feel like: “ugh, I will not be able to breathe until there is nothing in this room”? Today we will teach you how to decorate your room with minimalism. Minimalist decor is all about simplicity. It is stripping your room to the bare essentials. Everything has its purpose. There are no trivial pieces or over furbishing. Minimalism is most prominent in Japanese and contemporary American decor. We will explain minimalism a bit then we will give you few pointers on how to decorate your living room with minimalism.
Minimalism is about keeping your room features clear and simple. In minimalist decor you can’t find a piece or a corner in the room that shows “focus”. Surfaces do not have a lot on them. Minimalism is also enhanced with squared or circular chairs and couches. Light has a dominant role in minimalist decor. Thus you find white color or shades of white in the walls and furniture. Primary colors are used only to add spots of color.
So if you need your living room furnished with minimalist design what could you do?
1- Because simplicity is the key, choose furniture with simple lines and decorations. So only keep what you need in the room.
2- Sofas and chairs should be plain and have a transitional rectangular design. Keep few pillows if needed but make sure that they match the simple style, no colors, lace or fringe.
3- The lesser covering you use for your floors and walls the best. a simple rug is enough, Berber style should be fine.
4- For your minimalist design use a neutral soothing color for your walls. Like we have just said it is “color”, so use one only.
5- Your lambs and shades should be of simple design. Spare brass designs and wrought iron should look fine.
6- Indirect lighting or ambient light from recessed fixtures is a must for minimalist living room decor. So no extravagant chandeliers or faux candle lights should be there.
7- Coffee end tables should be simple too. For your minimalist living room use stone topped or glass topped metal tables.
8- Bare windows look good in this design. If you need curtains use simple ones with wrought iron rod or use 2 inch wide wooden blinds or plantation shutters.
