Bedroom interior design requires a lot of consideration to set a comfortable environment in the place where one should forget about the worries of the world. Special care must be put in designing a bedroom for a blind person. The person responsible for the interior design should keep in mind every single detail that may affect the functionality of the bedroom setting and its comfort.
Several legally blind persons have varying degrees of visual awareness. Hence, it is important to choose the correct colors to set the mood of the bedroom. Neutral colors and pastels are calm choices in the bedroom. Using furniture pieces with colors that contrast with the walls and the flooring can be useful in the case of varying degrees of blindness. Contrast is very beneficial in things like light switches and doorknobs.
The following necessity to accompany good colors is a good lighting system. For instance, curtains must be installed to control the amount of needed daylight. As for artificial lighting, it makes sense to provide adjustable bedside lamps in a hand’s reach. Mirrors and shiny objects also affect the bedroom lighting. It is preferable to avoid using such shiny objects to reduce unnecessary glare.
Managing the space is a vital issue in bedroom interior design for a blind person. There mustn’t be any objects blocking moving space. If placement of carpets is essential, it is better to tape them to the floor to prevent tripping accidents. Moreover, take care of cords by nailing them to the wall edges because they are notorious to be tripping traps for everyone.
Since blind persons make good use of their other senses, a well-thought interior design should include smart use of textures and smells for both aesthetic and practical purposes. Lastly and most importantly, choose a comfortable bed with an upholstered back for a wonderful comfort.
